Ethereum to Now Merge in September
Ethereum is set to upgrade to a full Proof of Stake (PoS) in mid-September, according to the timeline given during the developers' public meeting. Call coordinator Tim Beiko proposed that the final testnet Goerly be merged later next month. The first phase is Bellatrix, the merge specification, in early September, with the merge two weeks later, in the week of September 19, say meeting notes.
Please treat this as a planning timeline, a community manager said, rather than fixed dates. However, last month the Ropsten testnet merge went off without a hitch, indicating that the protocol is ready to go live. This will be the biggest upgrade in eth and arguably all of the crypto space since bitcoin was launched 14 years ago.
This is both on a technical level, such as the ethical transition from Eth's heavy mining gear to voting stake through Eth Units of Account, as well as where the nature of Eth as an asset is concerned.
Bitcoin and Ethereum will merge in September following a seamless software upgrade. After the upgrade is complete, users will have access to our combined platform services. This isn't a change for Bitcoin users who already have access to our platform services.
